About ME

Hi, I’m Anish Mohanty and I’m a sophomore at Loyola Marymount University. Although I was accepted to LMU’s Top 10 film school, I’m majoring in Information Systems. But I express my passion for film through video essays studying film and politics, digital content for campaigns, and social justice projects. I also love playing piano!

When I was 16, I traveled to Odisha, India, to create a documentary telling the story of fostered children at Adruta Children Home and raised over $23,000 in one night and much more later on. When I was 17, I did a TEDx talk on how the cultivation of insight does not come from conformity to academics, but from active engagement and curiosity-driven cognizance in one’s interests; academic excellence is not an indicator of intellect or a predictor of success, but typically devalues those who don’t conform.

Being interested in politics, I’ve interned for Senator Feinstein, created video essays to educate my peers, interviewed presidential candidates, and volunteered at conventions, a debate, and for campaigns. I’ve developed a strong progressive identity, which is why in 2020, I joined the Digital Team on Senator Ed Markey’s re-election campaign in Massachusetts, utilizing my passion for film to fight for the progressive cause, and create videos for organizations like World War Zero, a climate change coalition co-founded by Secretary of State John Kerry.

I’m very grateful to have had my work recognized by Senator Ed Markey, presumptive Representative-Elect Mondaire Jones, and Sunrise Movement co-founders Varshini Prakash & Evan Weber, and seen by Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
